La reina de la música Gospel

Mahalia Jackson fue una cantante norteamericana nacida en Nueva Orleans un 26 de octubre de 1911, pese a ser contemporánea de Billie Holliday  no se relacionó con el ambiente del jazz, sino con la música sacra, se negó a grabar canciones profanas, excepto una vez que lo hizo con Duke Ellington quien también era un devoto creyente.

Cuando conoció a Martin Luther King, pastor de la iglesia bautista, abrazó la lucha por la justicia racial y se convirtió en una importante activista reconocida en todo el mundo.
Murió en enero de 1972, es decir que estuvo presente cuando su amigo ganó el Premio Nobel de la Paz en 1964.
